A funeral is used to mark the end of a person’s life here on earth. Family and friends come together to express grief, give thanks for the life lived and commend the person into God’s keeping.

Everyone is entitled to a funeral service in their local parish church, regardless of whether they attended church or not. If you have recently been bereaved you are welcome to contact us directly, but a good place to start is to contact a local funeral director. They will then put us in contact with you about organising the service.

When we hear from your funeral director, a member of our clergy team will arrange to come and visit you to plan the funeral. Whilst there are certain elements we have to include in the service, we will seek to shape the service around a family’s wishes and to reflect the life of the person we have gathered to remember.

Our clergy don’t just conduct services at church, they can also conduct funeral services at the crematorium and a natural burial sites.

Another option that is available is a memorial service. This usually takes place following the formal committal service and can even happen on a different day. If this is something you are considering please speak to us and your funeral director about it at the earliest opportunity.
