St Michael’s is organising an Angel Festival to take place from Monday 28th November to Sunday 4th December. The purpose of the Angel Festival is essentially outreach. It will involve a range of displays and activities and has, as its inspiration, the passage Hebrews 13:2 – “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
We already have a number of activities and crafts planned including a matinee showing of “It’s a wonderful life”, school visits (at last count around 180 children and young people will be attending during the week), Jonnie – our Director of Music – will be working with the Community Choir to prepare something special for the Sunday evening Advent Carol Service and following Sunday 10am Eucharist. We are encouraging all of our church groups to prepare a piece of artwork or poetry or some other display (Flower Club for example) and the young puppeteers will also be very involved. So far we have gained commitment from: Active Angels (the play group that meets in the Parish Centre), the NCT class, TGiM, the Pastoral Team, ACE (Arts and Crafts Experience), Circle of Friends (formerly the Guild), Mothers Union, Guides, Brownies, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and so on…..
We also hope to have an ‘Angel Trail’ around the area with angels being placed in shop windows and unusual places for people to find and record and then hand in their completed entry forms for inclusion in a prize draw. There will also be other prizes for best in category etc.
The church will be open daily with refreshments being available, and the weekend of the 3rd – 4th December will be an open weekend.
We want to involve as many people as possible so please watch this space for future announcements on how you can get involved and support this initiative! If you are a member of a group that would like to contribute something, or if you want to do so individually, please let us know!
