The Diocese of Newala
The official inauguration of the Diocese of Newala and consecration of the Right Reverend Oscar Mnung’a as Bishop of the Diocese was carried out on 6 September 2009 with a special Mass led by the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Dr Valentino Mokiwa. During the Mass, the Archbishop was assisted by fifteen Bishops from the Dioceses of Masasi, Dar-es-Salaam, Ruaha, Zanzibar, Kagera, Kiteto, Mara, Morogoro, Ruvuma, Southern Highlands, South West Tanganyika, Tabora, Tanga, and Western Tanganyika.
St Michaels celebrated its centenary in 2010 and in conversations between parish priest Fr Simon Marsh and the local church leadership in Bramhall it seemed fitting and right that, as Bramhall celebrated 100 years of Christian life and mission, a new friendship might be formed with a parish or diocese newly inaugurated.
Newala and Bramhall hope to learn from each other, bound by their common faith in Jesus Christ and the fellowship and friendship of the Gospel. We hope that this friendship, intially established by the visit of Keith Fenwick, George (Georgina) Foot and Tony Johnson to Tanzania, will flourish for many years to come. Please pray for God’s blessing upon all our shared endeavours.
